Mission Statement

The Gender Diversity Working Group (GDWG) was created to promote the overall wellness, success, and equity of gender diverse students through advocacy, education, and support.

Overall activities that inform our goals:

  1. Advocacy: To ensure opportunities for self-empowerment and access to resources for gender diverse students and address oppressive practices and procedures.
  2. Education: To enhance awareness of diverse gender identities and expressions and equip faculty, staff, and other students with skills to contribute to an affirming campus environment.
  3. Support: To foster relationships with gender diverse students and work together to identify and respond to needs and growth areas across the campus community.

BRief History

July 2017

Founding

Founded by a staff member in the Counseling Center, the group was originally known as the “Trans Health Services Committee”

Fall 2017

Name change

The group undertook another name change and became known as the “Trans Wellness Working Group”

Spring 2018

Toolkit development

The group began constructing an online, comprehensive Toolkit for Gender Diverse Students, Faculty, and Staff

September 2018

Final Name Change

Group changed its name to the current moniker, the Gender Diversity Working Group, to be more inclusive of Trans, Non-binary, and Gender non-conforming identities and experiences.

July 2019

Homeplace

The GDWG joined with LEARN to be housed under it’s collective umbrella.
